Cells of 12.5 cm. Corners to the millimetre.
Ships, stations and habitats are made of cells 12.5 cm across — and every corner of every cell can be moved, in steps of about a millimetre. A hull is shaped, not stacked.
Dated 19 October 2026. Every tool named below is in the current build.
Press on a corner and drag it; the surface around it bends with it. An illustration of the rule, not the game's own editor.
A grid you can bend
A hull starts as a grid of 12.5 cm cubes. Every corner can be moved off its home position, so curves, chamfers and tapers come out smooth rather than stepped. in the game
How it works
Each corner moves on a ladder of 120 steps per cell: one step is about 1.04 mm. Neighbouring cells share their corners, so moving one drags the surface around it. The corner tool lets a corner travel up to one full cell from home, which keeps the shared surface from folding through itself.
A real ship, by the numbers
The game's default ship:
652,790 cells
at 12.5 cm each.
340,915 moved corners
corners shaped off the plain grid.
34 parts
placed elements fitted to the hull.
The tools
Building mode has its tools on the number keys: 1 Deploy, 2 Vertex, 3 Element, 4 Copy, 5 Smooth, 6 Colour, 7 Link, 8 Move, 9 Replace, and on 0 the airbrake, glass and hatch parts. in today's build
What each tool does
- Deploy lays down shapes and extrudes them, solid or as a hollow shell of any thickness.
- Vertex moves corners, one step at a time or in coarse steps from the keyboard.
- Smooth sands a surface: the corners that stick out most are pulled in most, and each click closes 30 % of the remaining gap. Hold it to keep sanding.
- Element places parts. A part aimed at another part's face turns to the nearest of its 24 square-on orientations, sits flush against the face and lines its edges or centre up with it; you can still turn it through all 24 by hand.
- Mirror: the M key cycles off, the ship's own centre line, and a mirror plane you place. With it on, every part gets its reflected twin.
- Undo and redo with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y, including parts you deleted.
- Blueprints: Ctrl+S and Ctrl+L save a construct to a file and load it back.
From a skiff to a station
A construct is built around a core whose size sets its build space: from a 16 m cube (XS) up to 256 m (XL). in the game
The sizes
The cube edge is 16 m for XS, then 32, 64 and 128 m, up to 256 m for XL. The space is stored sparsely, so empty cells cost nothing.
| Core | XS | S | M | L | XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Edge of the build space | 16 m | 32 m | 64 m | 128 m | 256 m |
| Cells per edge | 128 | 256 | 512 | 1,024 | 2,048 |
Built, then broken, in the same cells
Damage works on exactly what you built. An impact removes the cells along its path and pushes the corners around the hole inward, so a crash leaves a crumpled rim rather than a health bar going down. See the damage page. in development
